Buenos Aires, 13 - Colombia asked the World Food Program to help the country in dealing with a humanitarian crisis caused by the migration of thousands of Venezuelans trying to flee from the social, political and economic problems in their homeland. After meeting with President Juan Manuel Santos and senior officials of the Colombian government, the Executive Director of the World Food Program, David Beasley, announced that he would send a message to world leaders to support Colombia. "I am going to take this message to the United States, to other countries, to leaders, to support the Colombian people who are very generously helping the Venezuelans who have left their country," he stressed. The World Food Program runs a series of activities that seek to eradicate malnutrition and provide humanitarian assistance to countries in crisis situations. To date, more than 2,000 Venezuelan families have been assisted in Colombia in the border cities of Maicao, La Guajira, Cúcuta and Villa del Rosario.
