São Paulo, 16 - The Brazilian state-owned energy company Eletrobras may resume its voluntary dismissal plan in an attempt to increase employee participation in the program. According to the firm, 735 people joined the scheme, less than a third of the 3,000 initially expected. Eletrobras spent R$ 272 million with the dismissal plan and may save up to R$ 216 million in the next five quarters. The previous deadline to join the scheme was April 27. "We could make a second opening of the voluntary dismissal plan because somehow people saw the possibility of the privatization process not happening," said Eletrobras' president, Wilson Ferreira Júnior, in a teleconference with analysts. He added that there is no way that Eletrobras' privatization process could be stopped and that the new phase of the voluntary dismissal plan would be more favorable to the company.
